    SwitchResX has always worked flawlessly and reliably when installed on Mac OS Yosemite and it has many features the other apps used adjusting display resolutions simply dont have. I found bigger makes it slightly blurry so go with smaller-I chose "2046x1536". To use these display resolutions requires the usage of an application called 'SwitchResX' or similar type of app. It must be 2 pixels bigger or smaller than the native resolution in one direction (this is the OS X quirk).
